Description:

This class is meant to prepare you for the challenges in English and Language Arts. To see your creative side, as well as, to challenge you to think more "outside the box" instead of literally. ELA covers two entire sections on the GA Milestones test. It is a very important component in passing 7th grade!

REMEDIATION/ENRICHMENT

  • What will we be working on?

    Educational Philosophy:

Every student is unique. I feel it is very important that students feel welcome and supported in the classroom. Learning how to learn is key.  I strive everyday to teach my students not only the material, but teaching them how to retain this material and use it in their everyday lives.

    Focus of the Week:

    (October 16-November 17th)

Students will be working on the novel "The Giver". They will be focusing on RACE strategies of writing, point of view, characterization, types of characters, similes, metaphors, and plot diagrams. Students will be learning applications of these and inferring how to use them in the text and with unrelated evidence outside of the text.  Students will also use roots words and depth of knowledge words to assist in interpretation of the language of the standards.

We will have assignments and assessments using Greek and Latin root word patterns and challenge words from the language arts curriculum.
One key focus will be Depth Of Knowledge words. In order to prepare for the GA Milestones testing this year, we will be focusing a great deal on interpretation and synthesis of DOK words. This will enable students to understand high level questioning, and teach them how to further use essential context clues.
Students must interpret and execute knoweldege and unerstanding of the Writing Process. We will work on this extensively. Our focus will be narratives. We will also distinguish and write specifically on  persuasive and  informational pieces of writing.
